Travel Tuesday: Hazelmoor, Maryland.
18 Sep
I survived my first day at work! But I think I’ll finish out the first week before I share my feelings, it’s all still so new! And it feels like everyone is speaking a totally different language thanks to all the jargon! But overall my day was good.
Back to the task at hand. So what is Travel Tuesday you ask? It is an idea that was shared with me at the Healthy Living Summit by Sarah of Blonde Bostonian. We had just heard a speech from Derek of Greatist during the Blogging Workshop Hours, when I shared that I had lots of un-blogged about travels from this summer and wasn’t sure how to go about blogging the millions of travel photos and memories I had. Sarah told me about her Travel Tuesdays and I knew it’d be the perfect way to share without overwhelming everyone with vacation photos upon vacation photos. So a big thank you to Sarah for the idea! If you ever want to start a link up, I’m in!
This was the summer of all summers for me and although I was pretty good at blogging about my travels at first it all went to drain very quickly. But before that happened I did share a few posts! Here are the links to the travels from the beginning of the summer!
Ludington, Michigan.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Clarksville, Tennessee.
Post #1, a.k.a. that one time I jumped off a bridge.
Atlanta, Georgia.
Boca Grande, Florida.
Birmingham, Alabama.
Hazelmoor, Maryland.
My trip to Hazelmoor was for the most part unplanned. My Dad came to visit me while I was in Birmingham babysitting my cousins and asked me what I was doing as soon as I got home. My answer was nothing besides move out of my apartment. So, he invited me to go with him to Maryland to visit my grandparents in his “hometown”, I changed my flight and the four days later I was there.
*Photo Disclaimer* When I went to choose my photos for this post I realized my DSLR photos are missing in action. So I am left with iPhone and point and shoot photos. Please forgive me.
My view as we drove over the Bay Bridge to the Eastern Shore.
Welcome to Hazelmoor.
I could use the slower pace every now and again.
Hazelmoor is a tiny community on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, approximately 30 minutes away from the nearest tiny town. Many people have vacation homes there but my Gigi & Pop, what I call my Dad’s parents, were smart enough to make this quaint little place their home! My Dad grew up there and it’s a place I love to visit and hadn’t been to in the summer months for 4 years! So I took it all in while I had the chance!
I ate delicious, fresh food like these blueberry buckwheat pancakes!
I discovered Nutella & strawberries might be the best combination ever.
I painted pottery. Yes, my Gigi the retired art teacher had a pottery studio in her back yard!
Everything in the kiln! I made the tile and heart bowl!
I took a few blustery boat rides! There is just something about riding in a boat that is so soothing to me!
My “ridiculously amazing” Aunt Erin finally showed up to hang out with us!
Pretty blue crabs that I could not bring myself to pick and eat. Until they were made into crab dip that is…
We took a boat ride to spend a brief hour with some family down the river!
Cousins! Well I’m a second cousin but still…
My last dinner in Hazelmoor. Fresh fried fish and out of this world crab dip! Prepared by my aunt and uncle. Eaten on the Bay!
My Dad & I shared a drink and a nice meal at Phillip’s Seafood in the Baltimore Airport before we left each other…miss you Dad!
Looking back I am so happy that I got to spend those few days in Hazelmoor. Now that I’m a working girl I don’t know when I’ll get to go back again but I will cherish these relaxing memories. Next week my travels will take us to another waterfront destination, Cape Cod!
